Beginning Therapy

Starting therapy can feel like a big step, especially if it’s your first time. My goal is to make the process feel as comfortable and supportive as possible from the very beginning.

There is no “right way” to start therapy. Some people arrive with clear goals, while others simply know something in their life feels difficult or overwhelming. Wherever you are, we’ll begin there and move at a pace that feels right for you.

Your First Therapy Session

Your first session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another and begin building a foundation for our work together. We’ll talk about what brings you to therapy, explore the challenges you’re currently facing, and discuss the goals you’d like to work toward.

There is no pressure to share anything before you’re ready. We’ll move at a pace that feels comfortable, and you remain in control of what you choose to discuss.

Together, we’ll begin identifying patterns, strengths, and areas you may want to focus on as we move forward.

What Ongoing Therapy is Like

Therapy is not a one-size-fits-all process. Our work together will be shaped by your needs, your goals, and your experiences.

Some sessions may be focused and structured, while others may be more open and reflective. We may focus on developing practical coping strategies, exploring emotional patterns, processing life experiences, or a combination of all three.

Over time, many clients find that therapy helps them feel more grounded, more self-aware, and more confident navigating life’s challenges.

My Approach

My approach is collaborative, compassionate, and grounded in respect for your individual experience.

I draw from evidence-based practices while tailoring each session to meet you where you are. I focus on understanding your strengths, identifying patterns that may be getting in the way, and helping you build tools that support meaningful and lasting change.

Above all, I aim to create a space where you feel heard, supported, and understood without judgment.

How We’ll Work Together

Therapy works best when it is an active, collaborative process. My role is to provide support, insight, and guidance, while also helping you build practical skills you can use outside of sessions.

Together, we may:

  • Increase awareness of patterns in thoughts, emotions, and behavior

  • Develop healthier coping strategies

  • Strengthen boundaries in relationships

  • Build confidence in decision-making

  • Work toward goals that feel meaningful to you

Progress is not always linear, and we’ll regularly revisit your goals to make sure our work continues to reflect what matters most to you.

Your Role in the Process

You don’t need to have everything figured out to begin therapy. Showing up as you are is enough.

Many clients find therapy most helpful when they are open, honest, and willing to reflect both during and between sessions. That said, everything is always at your pace—there is no pressure to move faster than feels right for you.

Moving at Your Pace

Therapy should feel like a space where you can slow down, make sense of things, and move forward with intention.

We will always go at a pace that feels manageable and supportive. If something feels too overwhelming, we can slow down. If you feel ready to go deeper, we can explore further. The process is flexible and responsive to your needs.

A Final Note

Beginning therapy is an important decision, and it’s completely normal to feel uncertain at first. My goal is to make that first step feel easier and to support you in creating meaningful, lasting change over time.
